H3ABioNet's
Introduction to Bioinformatics Course
This
is to inform our colleagues in the Sciences and Medical Sciences that we have
been handed a great opportunity for capacity building in the fast developing
field of Bioinformatics. The University of Abuja has been approved as one of
the classrooms to host the next Human Hereditary and Health in Africa
Bioinformatics Network’s (H3Abionet) Introductory Bioinformatics Course.
Broadly
speaking, H3ABioNet aims to create a sustainable African Bioinformatics Network
to support African researchers through the development of bioinformatics
capacity on the continent, to support infrastructural development for the full
exploitation of the African genomic and environmental resources for translation
into improved health in Africa, and to develop tools and bioinformatics
solutions appropriate for exploitation and interpretation of biological
information in Africa, and make these more accessible to African researchers.
The
course is expected to run from 24th April 2017, from 9:30am to 1:30pm on
Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 months. It is a free online course with marked
attendance. The live modules will be delivered by an international faculty of
H3 Africa Bioinformatics Network simultaneously at 22 centres across Africa;
the UniAbuja classroom being one of 4 centres approved for Nigeria alongside
NABDA Headquarters, UI and UDUS.
